- Messi gave Coutinho the ribbon before the Camp Nou match against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.
- Philippe joined Bayern over the summer.
- It seems like the Brazilian wears the lucky charm to this day.
Despite being loaned-out to Bayern Munich, it seems like Philippe Coutinho still remains in touch with his teammates from Barcelona. It looks like the Brazilian is still wearing the red ribbon Leo Messi gave him ahead of the match against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.
In fact, the ribbon seems to have worked back in 2018, as the Brazilian scored the opener in the 13th minute of the clash. Eventually, the match ended 6-1 in Barca’s favour. It was a special moment as Leo who won the penalty handed the 27-year-old an opportunity to open the score and change the tie.
Coutinho has scored two goals and provided four assists for the Bavarians so far. The German side have the option to make his transfer permanent next summer for €120m.
“The gesture from Messi shows how great he is,” said Coutinho after that game. “It was all really natural, nothing special had been prepared before the game. I’m grateful to him for letting me take the penalty.”
As a reminder, Barca’s captain was given the red ribbon during the World Cup in Russia. Journalist Rama Pantarotto gave the 32-year-old his mother’s lucky charm after the game and it worked, he scored in the match against Nigeria and helped his team advance to the play-offs. After the game, Leo revealed he still had the ribbon.
